History
Oscar Mulero is one of the central figures of Spanish techno, a Madrid DJ and producer known for dark, hypnotic, loop-driven records that value tension over release. He came up as a resident DJ in Madrid clubs in the early 1990s, when techno in Spain was still a small scene, and helped shape its harder, more austere side. As a label owner he ran Warm Up Recordings and later PoleGroup, which became a home for a close circle of Spanish producers working in deep, industrial-tinged techno. His own albums, including About Discipline and Education, Learning to Be a Machine and The Gothic Window Effect, show the approach: repetitive grooves, metallic percussion, murky atmospheres and small shifts that unfold over long stretches rather than big drops. Later work moved into more abstract and ambient territory alongside the club material. Listeners recognise his sound by its steady, machine-like pulse, the cold and shadowy textures and the patience of the arrangements, built to be heard in long sets on a large system.
