History

Nyusha, born Anna Shurochkina on 15 August 1990 in Moscow, is a Russian pop singer and songwriter who grew up in a musical family: her father, Vladimir Shurochkin, was a member of the Soviet-era band Laskovyi May. She began performing as a child in the group Grizli and took the stage name Nyusha at 17. Competing at the New Wave festival in 2008 gave her early visibility, and her 2010 debut album Choose a Miracle, released on Gala Records, produced a run of number-one Russian radio hits including "Do Not Interrupt," the title track, and "Higher." Her 2014 follow-up Union kept the streak going; its single "Memory" reportedly topped the TopHit listener request chart for 19 straight weeks, longer than any other track in the chart's history. Across her catalog she has racked up eight number-one singles in Russia and won Best Russian Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards twice, in 2011 and 2014. She later mentored on the Russian version of The Voice Kids and competed on the ice-skating show Ice Age.
