History

Natti Natasha works the melodic side of reggaeton, singing full lines where the genre often settles for a chanted hook, and her records are built to let a chorus carry rather than a beat drop. She came out of the Dominican Republic, and the Caribbean phrasing survives in her vowels even in the most polished productions. Dutty Love was the early proof that the voice could hold a duet against a bigger name, and Criminal, cut with Ozuna, is the song that made her a headline act: a slow dembow, a trading of verses rather than a feature slot, and a hook pitched low enough to sit under the male vocal instead of competing with it. Sin Pijama went the other way, brighter, faster and written from the woman's side of a situation the genre usually narrates from the man's. She tends to keep the arrangements uncluttered, a dembow pattern, a synth line and space, which puts the weight on the melody and on a voice that stays controlled where many of her peers push.
