History
Kadysheva sings folk material in the open-chest style, and she has done it inside the same ensemble for decades: Zolotoye koltso, put together in the late 1980s, with her husband Alexander Kostyuk as its artistic director. The band arranges village song for a stage audience, so a piece like Vinovata li ya arrives with a full pop rhythm section under a vocal line that would hold up unaccompanied. Techyot ruchey and Shiroka reka are the ones most listeners can hum without prompting. The voice is placed forward and uncovered, no head tone, vibrato used sparingly and never as decoration. The unexpected turn came much later: in the 2020s her halls began filling with people born long after the hits, and ticket demand became news in itself. The programme had barely changed by then. The audience had.
