History

Mr. Oizo is the stage name of French producer Quentin Dupieux, born 14 April 1974 in Paris. He entered the house scene in the late 1990s and was signed to Laurent Garnier's label F Communications in 1997. His 1999 single "Flat Beat", built around a bass loop and a Fatback Band drum sample, hit number one in the UK and became a European sensation after Levi's used it in jeans commercials starring the yellow puppet Flat Eric; the Flat Beat EP has sold over three million copies. His debut album Analog Worms Attack followed the same year, made entirely on analog gear, while 2005's Moustache (Half a Scissor) switched to computer production. After moving to Ed Banger Records, he released Lambs Anger (2008) and later The Church (2014, on Brainfeeder) and All Wet (2016), the latter featuring Skrillex, Charli XCX and Boys Noize. He also produced much of Uffie's 2010 debut album. His stage name is a play on the French word "oiseau" (bird). Dupieux is equally known as a filmmaker, directing Rubber and Deerskin under his own name.
