History
Мот (Mot) is the stage name of Matvey Alexandrovich Melnikov, a Russian rapper and singer born March 2, 1990, in Krymsk, Krasnodar Krai. He began writing rap freestyles in 2006 and released his first singles under the pseudonym "BthaMoT2bdabot" in 2009. That year he entered the "Battle for Respect" contest among roughly 2,000 participants, reaching the top 40; on the advice of veteran rapper Legalize (Лигалайз), he shortened his handle to "Мот." His debut album, "Remote," followed in January 2011. From 2013 to 2022 he recorded under Timati's Black Star Inc. label, releasing albums including "92 дня," "Добрая музыка клавиш," and "Парабола," moving from straight hip-hop toward a radio-friendly pop/R&B sound. He is best known for collaborations such as "Паруса" with Zivert, "Сопрано" with Ani Lorak, and tracks with Timati and Egor Kreed. His 2012 video "К берегам," filmed in flood-hit Krymsk, was ranked among the best Russian music videos of that October by Rap.ru. He has won a Muz-TV award.
