History

Morad brought Maghrebi-style drill into Spanish rap: tense, sliding beats, a clipped flow and lyrics taken straight from the street, about police, prison, poverty and the neighbourhood. He was born in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat to Moroccan parents and grew up in La Florida, spending part of his childhood in a children's home; he started rapping as a teenager with friends. His strongest influence is French rap made by artists of North African origin, and his debut album title M.D.L.R comes from that world: Mec de la Rue, French for street boy, a tag he popularised in Spain. The follow-up, Reinsertado, arrived in 2023. His session with the Argentine producer Bizarrap carried him well beyond Spain, and singles such as "Pelele" and "Manos Rotas" with Dellafuente reached the top of the Spanish charts. He works closely with Beny Jr, a fellow L'Hospitalet rapper. Listeners recognise him by the half-sung, half-spoken cadence and the refusal to soften his subject matter.
