Missy Elliott
Stuttering negative-space rap from the 2000s: tabla and dholak, sparse booming 808, reversed vocal stab, playful and hypnotic in feel. A name-free Suno recipe that reproduces the signature sound without tripping the artist-name filter.

History
Melissa Elliott grew up in Portsmouth, Virginia, and got her start in the R&B group Sista, signed to DeVante Swing's Swing Mob, where she met the producer Tim Mosley, later Timbaland. Through the mid-1990s the two wrote and produced for other people: Aaliyah's One in a Million, records for 702, Total and SWV. Supa Dupa Fly, her own debut, arrived in 1997 and sounded like nothing else on radio, because Timbaland's beats worked by subtraction, leaving holes where a kick was expected and filling them with stuttering hi-hats, odd vocal samples and silence. Elliott sings, raps and half-whispers across those holes, often switching mode inside a bar. Get Ur Freak On (2001) put a tumbi loop under the same approach, and Work It (2002) ran a hook backwards. She has written for dozens of other artists, won multiple Grammys, entered the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2019, and in 2023 became the first female rapper inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
