History
«Владимирский централ» (1998) became the reference point for post-Soviet blatnyak: minor-key harmony, guitar with accordion, a calm first-person account and a chorus that sticks on one hearing. Mikhail Krug wrote and sang it, a Tver man working under a stage name rather than his family name, Vorobyov. Years of clubs and small-run recordings came before it. The delivery is quiet and unpressured, full of pauses, closer to a man talking across a table than to a singer projecting from a stage. Prison material is only part of the catalogue; «Приходите в мой дом» is domestic and still gets sung at family gatherings by people with no interest in the genre at all, while «Кольщик» sits between the two. He was killed at his home in Tver in 2002, and the songs have stayed in circulation without a break, covered inside chanson and well outside it.
