History
midwxst is the stage name of Edgar Sarratt III, an American musician who came up in the digicore scene of the early 2020s, where teenage artists shared tracks and collaborations through SoundCloud and Discord. He first released music as $uspect in 2018 before settling on the midwxst name, and his style sits on the border between hyperpop and rap: he raps as often as he sings, over production that borrows the pitched vocals and glossy, overdriven synths of hyperpop along with the drums and cadences of modern hip-hop. A run of EPs between 2020 and 2022 built his audience, among them Back in Action and Summer03 in 2021 and Better Luck Next Time. in 2022. His debut studio album, E3, came out in September 2023 and showed a more polished, song-focused approach, and a second album, Archangel, followed in 2025. Within the scene he stood out as one of the artists who kept rap at the centre of the sound. A listener recognises midwxst by quick, melodic flows, bright synth leads and hooks that switch between rapping and pitched singing.
