History
MC Eiht (born Aaron Tyler in Compton, California) emerged in the late 1980s as the de facto leader of Compton's Most Wanted (CMW), a West Coast gangsta rap crew whose albums "Straight Checkn 'Em" (1991) and "Music to Driveby" (1992) charted on the Billboard 200 and produced tracks like "Hood Took Me Under." His gritty, laid-back delivery and street narratives made him one of the defining voices of early-90s Compton hip-hop. In 1993 he stepped into acting, playing A-Wax in the Hughes Brothers film "Menace II Society," and released the soundtrack single "Streiht Up Menace," often cited as his signature solo track. His solo debut album, "We Come Strapped" (1994), went gold and topped the Billboard R&B album chart for five weeks. He also appeared on soundtracks for "Boyz n the Hood" and "Tales from the Hood," and later voiced the character Ryder in the video game "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas" (2004). A long-running rivalry with fellow Compton rapper DJ Quik, sparked by the 1991 diss track "Def Wish," became one of West Coast hip-hop's notable beefs.
