History
Marwan Pablo is often called the godfather of Egyptian trap, the rapper who showed that the dark, slow-rolling sound of Atlanta could be rebuilt in Egyptian Arabic. He comes from Alexandria and began recording in the middle of the 2010s under the name Dama before settling on Marwan Pablo. His breakthrough came with "3ayz Fin", which spread further after a remix by the mahraganat artist Sadat, a crossover that tied the new rap scene to Egypt's street-party music. His partnership with the producer Molotof around 2019 produced tracks that fans still treat as his peak. In early 2020 he announced he was retiring for personal and religious reasons, and a year later he returned with the single "Ghaba", which drew millions of views within a day, followed by the CTRL EP. His style is moody and deliberate: low, heavy beats, a husky voice, sparse hooks and lyrics that lean inward rather than boasting. He sits at the root of the Egyptian rap wave that followed, and a listener knows him by that brooding tone and the weight he leaves between the lines.
