History
Max Korzh (Maksim Anatolyevich Korzh) is a Belarusian rapper, singer and songwriter born November 23, 1988, in Luninets. Trained in piano and solfeggio as a child, he later gravitated to rap, citing Eminem, Dr. Dre and Cypress Hill as influences, and played in short-lived teenage projects before dropping out of Belarusian State University to pursue music full-time. His 2012 debut album "Zhivotny Mir" (Animal World) and its lead single "Nebo Pomozhet Nam" broke him nationally; he mostly sings in Russian over a hybrid of club-rap and street pop that became a signature Eastern European sound. In November 2013 he became the first Belarusian artist to sell out Minsk-Arena (13,000 seats), later filling Moscow's Luzhniki, and won Best Album at the 2014 Muz-TV Awards for "Zhit V Kaif." A genuinely offbeat trivia point: he rarely gives interviews or plays corporate gigs, and by his own account is a distant relative of Vasily Korzh, a well-known Belarusian WWII partisan commander.
