History

Luxury Elite makes the smooth, late-night end of vaporwave: slowed fragments of eighties and nineties R&B, quiet-storm ballads, saxophone lines and glossy funk, looped until they feel like a hotel lounge heard through a wall. The American producer came up in the early 2010s Bandcamp and cassette scene, where the split release Late Night Delight (2013) with Saint Pepsi paired two of the genre's most melodic sample-based acts. Compared with the harsher collage of early vaporwave, these tracks are warm and unhurried, with the source material left recognisable and the edits kept gentle, closer to a mood tape than to a manifesto. World Class (2015) is the album most often pointed to as the project's signature statement, full of soft-focus grooves and the sense of an expensive city at night. Listeners recognise the sound by its sheen: cushioned drums, chorused keys, a sax or a sung phrase repeated just past comfort. That approach tied vaporwave to the later wave of future funk and mall-adjacent listening, where pleasure mattered more than critique.
