History
Louna is a Moscow alternative/punk rock band formed in 2008 by vocalist Lousine "Lou" Gevorkyan and bassist Vitaly "Vit" Demidenko, both members of the nu-metal band Tracktor Bowling who wanted to explore ideas that didn't fit their original group. Guitarists Rouben Kazariyan and Sergey Ponkratiev and drummer Leonid Kinzbursky rounded out the lineup; Kazariyan was later replaced by Ivan Kilar in 2019. Louna's sound blends nu metal, alternative rock and post-grunge with hardcore/punk energy and touches of Eastern folk melody, and the band became known for openly political, socially critical lyrics. Their debut album, Let's Get Louder, came out in 2010, followed by several more releases and singles that got heavy Russian rock-radio rotation. Louna won Best New Artist at the 2009 Russian Alternative Music Prize, and Gevorkyan was voted the country's best female rock vocalist at the 2012/2013 Nashe and Chartova Dyuzhina awards, a notable feat in Russia's male-dominated metal scene. In autumn 2013 the band toured 26 U.S. cities alongside The Pretty Reckless and Heaven's Basement.
