History
Lord Huron make cinematic indie folk rock: reverb-drenched guitars, high lonesome harmonies and surf and western twang, framed as stories told by drifters, lost lovers and ghosts. The project began in 2010 when Ben Schneider, who grew up in Okemos, Michigan and named the band after Lake Huron, started recording alone in Los Angeles before gathering a live band. The debut Lonesome Dreams (2012) was conceived as a series of old adventure tales, with pulp-styled videos to match. Strange Trails (2015) pushed the storytelling further, and its closing ballad "The Night We Met" found a huge new audience after it was used in the series 13 Reasons Why. Vide Noir (2018) moved into darker, noir-tinged psychedelia with more electric guitars. Critics have placed the band in a line with The Band, Neil Young, My Morning Jacket and Fleet Foxes. Listeners recognise them by the echoing vocals, galloping rhythms and the sense of an old Western film playing at dusk.
