History
LOBODA is the stage name of Ukrainian singer Svitlana Loboda, born 18 October 1982 in Irpin, Kyiv Oblast. She trained in vocals and piano from childhood, studied variety and jazz singing in Kyiv, and briefly performed with the girl group VIA Gra before launching a solo career in 2004 with the album "Ty Ne Zabudesh" (You Won't Forget). In 2009 she represented Ukraine at the Eurovision Song Contest with "Be My Valentine! (Anti-Crisis Girl)," a song about domestic violence, finishing 12th; her stage act featured a rotating descending rig she called the "Hell Machine." In 2010 she rebranded her career under the mononym LOBODA, moving into glossy Russian-language pop and dance-pop with hits like "Tvoi Glaza" (Your Eyes) and "Random." She was named a Distinguished/Honored Artist of Ukraine in 2013 and has been vocal against domestic violence outside music.
