History
Little Simz is the stage name of Simbiatu "Simbi" Ajikawo, a rapper born in 1994 in Islington, London, to Nigerian parents. She began releasing mixtapes in 2010 while still a teenager, also working as a child actor, and issued her debut album A Curious Tale of Trials + Persons independently in 2015. Her sound blends dense, introspective lyricism with jazz, soul, and orchestral production, often exploring identity, family, and mental health. Her 2019 album Grey Area earned her first Mercury Prize nomination, and its 2021 follow-up Sometimes I Might Be Introvert won the Mercury Prize outright in 2022, the same year she took the Brit Award for Best New Artist despite having released music for over a decade already. She has also acted in the Netflix series Top Boy and appeared in Venom: Let There Be Carnage. In 2024 she featured on Coldplay's single "We Pray," and her sixth album, Lotus, followed in 2025.
