History
Little Mix are a British girl group — Jade Thirlwall, Perrie Edwards, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, and formerly Jesy Nelson — formed in 2011 on the eighth series of The X Factor UK. They were originally assembled from solo contestants into a group first called Rhythmix, renaming to Little Mix after a naming dispute with a children's music charity. In December 2011 they became the first group ever to win The X Factor, and their winner's single, a cover of "Cannonball," hit number one. Signed to Simon Cowell's Syco Records, they built a pop/R&B sound across six studio albums, including Get Weird (2015) and Glory Days (2016), scoring UK number-one hits "Black Magic" and "Shout Out to My Ex," the latter winning the 2017 BRIT Award for British Single of the Year. Their 2012 debut DNA made them the first girl group since the Pussycat Dolls to crack the US Top 5 album chart. After Nelson's 2020 departure, the remaining trio became the first girl group to win the BRIT Award for Best Group, before the band began a hiatus in 2022.
