History
L'Impératrice is a French nu-disco and pop band formed in Paris in 2012, initially an instrumental project led by keyboardist Charles de Boisseguin. The lineup grew to include keyboardist Hagni Gwon, bassist David Gaugué, guitarist Achille Trocellier, and drummer Tom Daveau, and in 2015 vocalist Flore Benguigui joined, debuting on the EP "Odyssée" and raising the band's international profile. Their sound blends '70s space disco, funk, and downtempo synth pop, drawing on French film composers like François de Roubaix and Michel Legrand. The band released three studio albums on the label microqlima: "Matahari" (2018), "Tako Tsubo" (2021, a breakup-themed record produced with Renaud Letang), and "Pulsar" (2024), the last featuring a guest appearance from Maggie Rogers. Notably, months after "Pulsar" came out, Benguigui left the group in 2024 after nine years, and singer Louve stepped in as her replacement, a rare full mid-career vocalist swap for an established touring band.
