History

Lida is the stage name of Moscow musician Nikolai Romadov, who mixes pop-rave, hip-hop and hyperpop with a streamer's sense of humour. He studied piano at music school, started a school rock band at fourteen and spent years mixing tracks for rappers before putting out his own songs. For a while he ran a YouTube channel of songs about Dota 2 under the name Lida Mudota, and he also produces the collective Фрио. His albums then arrived in quick succession: Музло из гаражей in February 2021, with guests including S3RL, ЛСП, Slava KPSS and GSPD, then Моё имя Лида that November, Новая рок-звезда in December 2022 with Morgenshtern among the features, and Дак Теилс 3 in 2023, first released as a VK exclusive. The music is fast, loud and deliberately silly: rave synths, sticky choruses, meme references and parody, as on an EP whose title and cover spoofed an Eldar Dzharakhov record. Underneath the jokes sits a trained ear for arrangement, which helps explain why his records keep pulling in guests from very different corners of Russian pop and rap, from Maybe Baby to Slava Marlow.
