History
Ladyhawke is the stage name of Phillipa "Pip" Brown, a New Zealand singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist born in 1979 in Masterton. She took the name from Richard Donner's 1985 film of the same title. After playing in grunge bands as a teenager, she moved to Sydney in 2004 to join Nick Littlemore's group Teenager, later urged by him to release the songs she was writing on her own. Her self-titled 2008 debut album, produced with Pascal Gabriel, blended new-wave, synth-pop and 1980s rock influences and spawned the singles "Paris Is Burning" and "My Delirium"; it topped the New Zealand albums chart and reached the UK top 20. She swept New Zealand's major music awards in 2009 and won two ARIA Breakthrough Artist trophies. She has since released "Anxiety" (2012), "Wild Things" (2016) and "Time Flies" (2022), and has spoken openly about her autism diagnosis.
