History

Kyrre Gorvell-Dahll grew up in Bergen and trained as a classical pianist before he started posting remixes online, and a rework of Ed Sheeran's I See Fire was what first drew a large audience. Firestone, with Conrad Sewell singing, appeared in late 2014 and set the pattern: a midtempo beat, no build toward a screaming drop, and a plucked marimba or steel-pan figure where a festival synth would normally go. Stole the Show followed in 2015, then the album Cloud Nine in 2016. Press called the sound tropical house, and within two years that plucked lead had spread through pop radio, film trailers and advertising. He played the closing ceremony of the Rio Olympics in 2016. His later albums keep the same restraint, with the hook almost always given to an instrument imitating something wooden or metallic, struck once and left to ring.
