History
Klangkuenstler makes dark, emotional techno: hard, driving kicks, rumbling bass, melancholic pads and German-language vocal fragments that give the tracks a brooding, almost confessional mood. Behind the name is Michael Korb, who grew up in Füssen in Bavaria, moved to Munich at eighteen and discovered electronic music there. A first gig at Berlin's Ritter Butzke club led him to move to the capital in 2012. He began with deep and tech house, founding the label Zuckerton Records in 2011 and releasing a debut album, Das bin ich, in 2013, before turning to techno around 2018, the year of Mortalis. In 2019 he launched the label Outworld, home to much of his later work, including Weltschmerz in 2021 and Die Welt Brennt in 2023. That same year he co-founded Tote Sonne with Kobosil, a label combined with an artist agency and a fashion line. Klangkuenstler became one of the faces of the fast, emotionally charged techno that swept German clubs and festivals in the early 2020s. Titles like Weltschmerz hint at the sound: heavy, sorrowful and relentless at once.
