History
Khabib (real name Khabib-Rakhman Sharipov) is a Russian pop singer and video blogger born June 1, 1990, in Kazan, Tatarstan. Before turning to music, he worked as a police forensic expert, holding the rank of captain in Russia's Ministry of Internal Affairs, a background that later fueled his "ex-cop turned TikTok star" media image. He began releasing singles in the early 2010s, and in 2018 auditioned for the TNT show "Songs" in Moscow. His breakthrough came in January 2021 with "Yagoda Malinka" ("Berry Raspberry"), a bubbly pop-rock track that went viral on TikTok and YouTube, reportedly racking up over 30 million views within days and topping Russia's Top Radio & YouTube Hits and Top YouTube Hits charts. The song won him the Muz-TV Prize for "Breakthrough of the Year" in 2021. He has since collaborated with DJ Smash, Galibri & Mavik, Artur Pirozhkov (on the Golden Gramophone-winning "Myod"), and Philipp Kirkorov, and competed on the masked-singer shows "Avatar" and "Fantastika." In 2022 Lithuania barred him from entry until 2027 over his concerts in Crimea.
