History
Kerchak brought Jersey drill to France and pushed it faster: bouncing, triplet-heavy kicks, chopped vocal samples and borrowed melodies at tempos well above the usual drill pace, under a rough, energetic flow full of street slang and verlan wordplay. Raised in Bois-Colombes, in the Hauts-de-Seine west of Paris, he started young in a duo with a cousin and later changed his stage name to Kerchak, after the gorilla leader in Tarzan. His breakthrough came in 2022 with the single Sabor, and the same year he released the mixtape Confiance, which went gold. The EP En attendant Saison 2 followed, then the full Saison 2 (2024), also certified gold. While the American Jersey club style is usually festive, his version keeps the darker tone and harder themes of UK and French drill, which gives the music a strange tension between party rhythm and grim lyrics. He has worked with Gazo, PLK and Ziak, and with the New Jersey rapper Bandmanrill. He is considered one of the main faces of Jersey drill in France, recognisable by those skipping, sped-up beats and a voice that barely stops for breath.
