History

Joris Voorn is a Dutch DJ and producer whose techno is melodic, patient and built for long journeys rather than quick peaks. His early records mixed the drive of Detroit techno with warm chords and a sense of song, and a track like Incident, with its sweeping strings, crossed from techno sets into house and progressive ones. Future History in 2004 and From a Deep Place in 2007 extended that approach to album length, with deep grooves, soft pads and slow melodic development. As a DJ he became known for dense, layered mixes, running several records at once and editing them into something new, a method that made his compilations as closely studied as his own tracks. With Edwin Oosterwal he runs the Rejected label, and his later work, including the album Nobody Knows in 2014, leaned further into emotional melody and even acoustic textures. His place in the scene is that of a bridge between Detroit-rooted techno and the melodic, progressive side of club music. Listeners recognise him by rolling, hypnotic grooves topped with a clear, slightly melancholic tune.
