History
Jon Hopkins (born Jonathan Julian Hopkins, 15 August 1979, Kingston upon Thames, England) is an English electronic musician, producer and composer working across ambient, IDM and contemporary classical textures. He started out playing keyboards for Imogen Heap before becoming a long-term studio collaborator of Brian Eno, joining him and guitarist Leo Abrahams on the album Small Craft on a Milk Sea (2010). In 2007-2008 Eno brought him into the sessions for Coldplay's Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends, where Hopkins co-produced tracks and played organ and harmonium; his improvisation became the intro used on "Life in Technicolor." He then opened and DJed for Coldplay's world tour, playing Madison Square Garden and the O2 Arena to crowds of 20,000. His solo albums built a parallel path: Insides (2009) reached No. 15 on the US Dance/Electronic chart, Diamond Mine (2011, with King Creosote) and Immunity (2013) both earned Mercury Prize nominations, and Singularity (2018) picked up a Grammy nomination for Best Dance/Electronic Album. He also scored the 2010 film Monsters, which was nominated for an Ivor Novello Award.
