History
Jamiroquai are an English acid jazz and funk band from London, formed in 1992 by vocalist Jay Kay, who has remained the group's only constant member through many line-up changes. They emerged from London's funk and acid jazz scene of the early 1990s, later folding in disco, electronic, Latin, and rock influences, with lyrics often addressing social and environmental themes. Debuting on Acid Jazz Records before moving to Sony, the band scored three UK number-one albums: Emergency on Planet Earth (1993), Synkronized (1999), and A Funk Odyssey (2001), plus a chart-topping single, "Deeper Underground" (1998). Their third album, Travelling Without Moving (1996), holds a Guinness World Record as the best-selling funk album in history, and its single "Virtual Insanity" won Video of the Year at the 1997 MTV Video Music Awards and a Grammy in 1998. Jamiroquai were the third-best-selling UK act of the 1990s, behind only the Spice Girls and Oasis, having sold more than 26 million albums worldwide as of 2017.
