History
Jamie Cullum (born Jamie Paul Joseph Cullum, 20 August 1979, in Rochford, Essex, England, raised in Wiltshire) is an English jazz-pop singer, pianist and songwriter known for blending vocal jazz and swing with pop and rock covers. He self-financed his 1999 debut, Heard It All Before, on a budget of just £480. After a 2003 appearance on the Parkinson chat show, he signed a £1 million deal with Universal, and his third album, Twentysomething (2003), went platinum and became the best-selling studio album by a jazz artist in UK chart history, making him Britain's biggest-selling jazz artist of that year. Cullum is famous for reworking songs by Massive Attack, Radiohead and The White Stripes in jazz arrangements, often using a foot-tapped stomp box, looping pedals and beatboxing live on stage. He earned a Grammy nomination for Twentysomething and a Golden Globe nomination for co-writing "Gran Torino" with Clint Eastwood. Since 2010 he has hosted a weekly jazz show on BBC Radio 2.
