History
Igor Nikolaev (born January 17, 1960, in Kholmsk, Sakhalin Oblast) is a Soviet and Russian singer, composer, and producer who emerged in the early-to-mid 1980s as a keyboardist and arranger for Alla Pugacheva's band Recital. In 1983 Pugacheva recorded two of his songs, "Aisberg" and "Rasskazhite, ptitsy," and he wrote further hits for her, including "Paromshchik," premiered at the 1985 Song of the Year festival. He launched his own singing career in 1986 with "Melnitsa," releasing his debut solo album of the same name in 1987. His style blends Soviet-era estrada pop with ballad and dance-pop elements. From 1990 he built a long-running creative and personal partnership with singer Natasha Koroleva, co-headlining the "Dolphin and Mermaid" show, which reached New York's Madison Square Garden in 1997; he also wrote extensively for Irina Allegrova. Trivia: in 1988 he co-hosted Sweden's Grammis award ceremony alongside pop duo Roxette, and in 1989 he took part in a Soviet-American project that brought Cyndi Lauper to Moscow to record "Cold Sky." He was named People's Artist of the Russian Federation in 2019.
