History
Humanity's Last Breath make deathcore that feels more like weather than music: slow, crushing riffs in extremely low tunings, walls of dissonance, and vocals that range from bottomless growls to strained, almost choral howls. The band comes from Sweden and was formed in 2009 around guitarist Buster Odeholm. Odeholm is also known for his work with Vildhjarta, and the lurching, off-kilter rhythms of that Swedish scene run through this band too, only pushed toward a darker and heavier extreme. After early recordings and a self-titled album in 2013, the band took a long pause before Abyssal in 2019, the record that put them at the centre of the downtempo conversation. Välde followed in 2021 and Ashen in 2023, each leaning further into atmosphere, with eerie melodic layers and cinematic space between the blows. Their sound is recognisable at once: enormous low-end production, riffs that hang in the air before they fall, and a mood of cold, ritual dread rather than plain aggression.
