History
Havok is an American thrash metal band formed in Denver, Colorado, in 2004, when guitarist/vocalist David Sanchez and drummer Haakon Sjoegren put up fliers around the city to find a lead guitarist. The band's early years brought self-released demos and EPs before English label Candlelight Records signed them in 2007. Havok's sound draws on 1980s thrash metal, the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, death metal, hardcore punk and progressive metal, often paired with politically charged lyrics. Alongside acts like Municipal Waste, Evile and Warbringer, Havok is credited as one of the leading bands of the late-2000s/early-2010s "thrash metal revival." The group has released five studio albums: Burn (2009), Time Is Up (2011), Unnatural Selection (2013), Conformicide (2017) and V (2020); Unnatural Selection reached No. 154 on the Billboard 200 in its first week. Havok has toured with Anthrax, Sepultura, Testament and Death Angel, and once played Colombia's Rock Al Parque festival to roughly 45,000 people. Frontman Sanchez is the only remaining original member; founding guitarist Shawn Chavez, who left in 2010, died in 2015 at age 30.
