2010s french progressive death from the 2010s: pick-scrape harmonic dives, machine-tight downpicked chugs, open-tuned chord swells, aggressive and triumphant in feel. A name-free Suno recipe that reproduces the signature sound without tripping the artist-name filter.

History

Gojira came out of the Atlantic coast of southwest France with a metal sound built on weight and precision rather than speed. Their signature is audible on nearly every record: a pick scraped down the string to produce a mechanical squeal, dropped into riffs that sit on lurching, odd subdivisions while the drumming stays clipped and dry. The subject matter has been unusually consistent across their career, whales and oceans, deforestation, the planet as something being eaten, written plainly enough to read as conviction rather than slogan. From the dense technical death metal of their earlier albums they moved toward shorter, heavier, more melodic writing, and Magma in particular is stripped back and openly grieving. The band played the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics, staging a French revolutionary song on the facade of the Conciergerie, and won a Grammy for metal performance. A listener knows them by that pick squeal and by the sense of enormous mass moving slowly.
