History
Global Communication is a British electronic music duo formed in Yeovil, England, active since 1992, consisting of Mark Pritchard and Tom Middleton. Alongside Global Communication, the pair also recorded together under other joint names, including Reload, for eerier, more danceable material, and Jedi Knights, among several more aliases. Together they became known as architects of a lush, melodic strand of 1990s British ambient and electronica. Their landmark record is 76:14 (1994, Dedicated Records), a largely beatless, deeply textured album now regarded as one of the defining statements of 1990s ambient music; its tracks are titled after their own running times, which gives the album its name. A year earlier they released the mix compilation Pentamerous Metamorphosis (1993), a track-by-track reworking of Chapterhouse's album Blood Music. The duo also produced notable remixes, including a 1993 Reload rework of Aphex Twin's "On" and a 1997 Jedi Knights remix of Depeche Mode's "Home." They founded the Evolution Records and Universal Language Productions labels, revived the Global Communication name in 2006 for the mix album Fabric 26, and their track "5:23" later appeared on the Grand Theft Auto IV in-game radio station The Journey.
