History
Ghostface Killah raps at the top of his range and at the speed of someone who has already started the story. Of the Wu-Tang writers he is the most visual: brand names, room temperatures, what someone was wearing, all delivered in a rush that skips the connective tissue and leaves the listener to assemble the scene. He came up on Staten Island inside the group and kept the Tony Starks persona, the robes and the gold, as part of the writing rather than decoration on top of it. Supreme Clientele is the record most often used to argue his case, dense with soul loops and non linear detail, and Fishscale returned to the same crime narratives with harder production a few years later. Apollo Kids and Daytona 500 show the two modes, the first a hard boast over a cracked soul sample, the second a sprint where three voices trade without pausing. Cherchez LaGhost went somewhere else again, a disco lift that let him sound almost light. He is the Wu member other rappers cite for pure delivery.
