History
FKA twigs is the stage name of Tahliah Debrett Barnett, an English singer, songwriter and producer born in 1988 in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. Before music she worked as a backup dancer, appearing in videos for artists like Jessie J and Kylie Minogue, while training in classical music and ballet. She self-released EP1 in 2012, followed by EP2 (2013), produced with Arca, blending experimental R&B, art pop and electronic production around her breathy falsetto. Her debut album LP1 (2014) reached number 16 on the UK Albums Chart and earned a Mercury Prize nomination. After a hiatus, she returned with the acclaimed Magdalene (2019) and later Eusexua (2025). A genuinely odd bit of trivia: she performs under the name FKA twigs (formerly known as twigs) because a pair of twin sisters already worked professionally as Twigs for nearly two decades, forcing her to rebrand. She has also built a parallel acting career, appearing in Honey Boy (2019) and The Crow (2024).
