History
Fit for an Autopsy play a heavy, increasingly progressive form of deathcore, with huge downtuned riffs and breakdowns set against atmospheric, almost post-metal melodies and lyrics that take on social and environmental collapse. The band formed in Jersey City, New Jersey, in 2008, with guitarist Will Putney as a founding member; Putney is also a well-known producer in heavy music, and the band's records reflect his ear for dense, powerful production. Nate Johnson sang on the early albums, including Hellbound in 2013, and after his departure Joe Badolato became the lead vocalist, bringing a wider mix of growls, screams and melodic lines. The Great Collapse in 2017 is often seen as a turning point, pairing crushing weight with bigger, more melodic song structures and pointed lyrics about the state of the world. Oh What the Future Holds in 2022 continued in that direction with more space and atmosphere. Listeners recognise Fit for an Autopsy by the combination of punishing low-end riffs and wide, sorrowful melodies, and by an angry, socially aware tone rather than gore.
