History

Fake Blood is the club alias of Theo Keating, and its sound is fidget and electro house at its most physical: stuttering, chopped samples, rubbery basslines, abrupt edits and a heavy, swinging groove built for peak time. Keating was already a seasoned name when the project appeared. In the 1990s he was one half of the Wiseguys, the British big beat and hip hop act behind Start the Commotion and Ooh La La, and he later formed the Black Ghosts with singer Simon Lord. Fake Blood surfaced in 2008 with a deliberately anonymous identity, and records such as the Mars EP spread through DJ sets before most people knew who was behind them. Fix Your Accent in 2009 continued the same cut-up approach, and I Think I Like It soon carried the project into the mainstream. The big beat background explains a lot: the tracks are built from samples and breaks with a crate-digger's ear rather than from pure synth programming. Fake Blood is recognisable by jittery vocal chops and bass that lurches as much as it pumps.
