History

Enoo Napa is a producer from Durban, South Africa, whose music sits between deep house, Afro house and the darker, more minimal pulse of Afro-tech. His tracks tend to be slow-building and tribal: dry, rolling percussion, heavy sub-bass lines and melodic synth figures that circle for minutes without resolving, leaving room for long DJ blends. He made his debut in 2013 with the EP Stargaze, part of a wave of Durban and KwaZulu-Natal producers who pushed South African house toward moodier, more hypnotic territory. Later tracks such as Magic, Your Voice and Pharaoh kept the same atmosphere, and his collaboration with DJ Merlon, Two Zulu Men in Ibiza, nodded to the route that South African house has taken into European clubs. Remixes have linked him with vocalists such as Lisa Shaw and Msaki. He has played festivals at home, including the Cape Town Electronic Music Festival, and clubs abroad such as Ministry of Sound and DC10 in Ibiza. His signature is a patient, dark groove where the percussion and bass do most of the storytelling.
