History
Enforcer play fast, high-pitched heavy and speed metal with a clear debt to the early 1980s: galloping riffs, twin-guitar harmonies, shrieked choruses and songs that rarely waste a bar. The band formed in 2004 in Arvika, Sweden, around singer and guitarist Olof Wikstrand, a multi-instrumentalist, with his brother Jonas on drums. Their debut Into the Night appeared in 2008, and Diamonds followed in 2010 on Earache, carrying them from the Swedish underground to international touring. Death by Fire in 2013 and From Beyond in 2015 sharpened the speed metal side, Zenith in 2019 took a more melodic turn, and Nostalgia arrived in 2023. Enforcer are among the most visible names of the new wave of traditional heavy metal, a movement in which Sweden played an outsized part. The band has said it does not see its music as retro, simply as heavy metal. The signature is Wikstrand's soaring voice, relentless tempos, a bright, cutting guitar tone and the leather-and-denim energy of their live shows.
