History
Em Beihold (born Emily Mahin Beihold, January 21, 1999, in Los Angeles) is an American singer-songwriter known for warm, hooky piano pop drawing on influences like Regina Spektor and Fiona Apple. She started piano at six and wrote her first song at seven, later self-releasing music independently before two songs, "City of Angels" (2020) and "Groundhog Day" (2021), went viral on social media. Signed to Republic Records in 2021, she broke through with "Numb Little Bug" (2022), a song she wrote while processing a depression diagnosis; it took off on TikTok, peaked at No. 18 on the Billboard Hot 100, topped the Adult Pop Airplay chart, and was certified platinum by the RIAA. She followed with singles including "Fantasy" (with Gayle and Lauren Spencer Smith) and "Phone" (with Meduza), before releasing her full-length debut album, Tales of a Failed Shapeshifter, in February 2026, which she supported with her biggest headline tour to date.
