History

Yolka (Russian: Ёлка, born Elizaveta Valdemarovna Ivantsiv on 2 July 1982 in Uzhhorod, Ukraine) is a Ukrainian-born Russian pop singer and songwriter. Her stage name, meaning "fir tree," began as a childhood nickname after a friend mispronounced her real name, and it stuck. She grew up in a musical family and started performing in the early 2000s with the Uzhhorod rap outfit B&B before relocating to Moscow, where producer Vlad Valov and the label 100PRO shaped her solo pop-with-R&B sound. She has lived and worked in Moscow since 2010. Her signature hit, "Прованс" ("Provence," 2011), became one of the most-played Russian radio songs of the following year and helped make her one of the country's leading pop voices through the 2010s. She has won the Golden Gramophone Award, Russia's top pop-music prize, multiple times, and in 2021 recorded the collaborative single "Яблоко" with the band IOWA. Detailed English-language biographical information beyond these career milestones is scarce online.
