History

Her surname is Khruleva; the stage name comes from the Vaenga river, after which her home town of Severomorsk on the Murmansk coast was once called. She writes her own songs and sits at the piano to play them, which decides the sound: keys in front, band behind, delivery pitched at the edge of theatre. Absent and Kuryu are the two most people recognise. By the end of the 2000s the concerts had grown into large halls, where the material shows what it is: monologues more than pop songs, sung back by whole rows. Documented detail about her career is thin, so this stays short rather than guessing at the rest.
