History

Dxrk ダーク is an Algerian producer who became one of the leading names of drift phonk, the fast, aggressive offshoot of phonk that grew up on social video and car culture in the early 2020s. His tracks follow the genre's core recipe and push it hard: heavily distorted 808 bass, relentless cowbell melodies, chopped vocal samples in the spirit of 1990s Memphis rap, and a grim, menacing atmosphere that suits drifting clips and gaming montages. He began releasing music in 2021 and rose unusually fast. By 2022 he was the most-streamed artist from the Middle East and North Africa on Spotify worldwide, with his music reaching viral charts in dozens of countries. RAVE became his signature track, passing 200 million streams and spreading through phonk and gaming playlists, while DO OR DIE from his first year set out the hard-hitting style. He also remixed Unholy by Sam Smith and Kim Petras. Listeners recognise Dxrk by the sheer aggression of his mixes: clipped, pounding bass, bright cowbell hooks and a dark, cinematic tension from start to finish.
