History
Dom Kennedy (born Dominic Ross Hunn, August 22, 1984) is an American rapper from Leimert Park, Los Angeles. Working with his cousin Jason Madison, he built a word-of-mouth following in the late 2000s through self-released mixtapes, starting with 25th Hour (2008), whose track "Watermelon Sundae" got heavy local radio play. His sound draws on West Coast rap tradition, citing 2Pac and DJ Quik as influences, favoring terse, laid-back lyricism over narrative beats. His 2010 mixtape From the Westside with Love broke him beyond L.A., and its sequel, From the Westside with Love II (2011), became his debut studio album and reached the Billboard 200. Rather than sign to a major label, turning down an Interscope deal in 2013, he founded his own imprint, The Other People's Money Company, releasing Get Home Safely (2013) and By Dom Kennedy (2015), both of which peaked at number 23. He continued the Westside With Love series through a third installment in 2021 and released his tenth studio album, Class of 95, in 2024. In 2019, his guest verse on Nipsey Hussle's "Double Up" (with Belly) charted on the Billboard Hot 100.
