History

Dom Dolla makes house records built for a big room but assembled with the patience of a club producer: a filtered loop, one vocal phrase repeated until it stops being a lyric and becomes a rhythm, and a bassline that does most of the emotional work. He came out of Melbourne, part of an Australian dance scene that has consistently exported tech house, and his tracks kept the genre's dry drums and swing while adding hooks obvious enough for radio. San Frandisco and Take It made his name on festival stages, and Rhyme Dust, a collaboration that put a familiar rap vocal over a stripped groove, crossed from clubs into general rotation. Saving Up pushed further toward song structure without losing the loop-first construction. What a listener recognises is restraint: the drops tend to remove elements rather than pile them on, and the track keeps moving on groove instead of impact. He is also a producer who mixes his own records to sit well on a big system without turning harsh, which is a large part of why they survive a festival stage and a car stereo equally.
