History
Dokken is an American heavy metal band formed in Los Angeles in 1978 by singer Don Dokken. After a 1980 trip to Germany to record with producer Michael Wagener, the band settled into its classic lineup: Don Dokken on vocals, guitarist George Lynch, bassist Jeff Pilson (who replaced original bassist Juan Croucier, later of Ratt), and drummer Mick Brown. Blending melodic hard rock with glam metal, Dokken broke through in the US with 1984's "Tooth and Nail," which produced the hits "Alone Again" and "Just Got Lucky," and followed with "Under Lock and Key" (1985) and "Back for the Attack" (1987). One standout track, "Dream Warriors," was written for the film A Nightmare on Elm Street 3 and later ranked by VH1 as the top 80s horror-movie metal anthem. Constant friction between Don Dokken and George Lynch broke up the band in 1988; a mid-90s reunion produced the album "Dysfunctional" before splitting again. Don Dokken has continued leading the band since, with guitarist Jon Levin on board since 2003.
