History
Disgorge from San Diego played one of the most extreme versions of brutal death metal: a murky, almost shapeless wall of blast beats, down-tuned riffs and gurgling vocals, with very little in the way of melody or breaks. The band formed in 1992 around guitarist Tony Freithoffer and drummer Ricky Myers and settled in San Diego's underground. After demos and lineup changes, Matti Way took over vocals and the band signed to Unique Leader, which released She Lay Gutted in 1999. Consume the Forsaken followed with A.J. Magana on vocals, and Parallels of Infinite Torture in 2005 brought in vocalist Levi Fuselier. The band toured Europe, the Americas and parts of Asia and Oceania,. Bassist Ben Marlin's illness pushed them into a hiatus in 2006, and he died in 2008. Myers later became vocalist of Suffocation. Disgorge are recognised by their sheer density: continuous blasting, low indecipherable vocals and a raw, cavernous sound that became a reference point for the slam and brutal underground.
