History
Deadmau5 is the stage name of Joel Thomas Zimmerman, a Canadian electronic music producer and DJ born January 5, 1981, in Niagara Falls, Ontario. His sound centers on progressive house and electro house, built on melodic, drawn-out arrangements rather than typical festival-EDM drops. He performs behind a custom mouse-shaped helmet, the "mau5head," and founded his own label, Mau5trap, in 2007. His breakthrough came with the album Random Album Title (2008) and its single "Faxing Berlin," followed by For Lack of a Better Name (2009), home to "Ghosts 'n' Stuff" (with Rob Swire of Pendulum) and "Strobe." Later albums 4x4=12 and Album Title Goes Here brought collaborations with Kaskade, Wolfgang Gartner, and My Chemical Romance's Gerard Way. He has since formed the supergroups Kx5 (with Kaskade) and Rezzmau5 (with Rezz), and holds seven Grammy nominations and four Juno Awards. A genuinely odd bit of trivia: the name "Deadmau5" comes from a dead mouse he found decomposing inside his overheating computer as a teenager.
